Osteoporosis Treatment

osteoporosisWhat is Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones that happens when you lose too much bone, make too little bone or both. As a result, your bones become weak and may break from a minor fall or, in serious cases, even from sneezing or bumping into furniture. If diagnosed early, the fractures associated with the disease can often be prevented.

There are a variety of factors that put you at risk for developing osteoporosis. In your evaluation, we will identify risk factors for osteoporosis and work together to develop a plan to protect your bones.

Treatment for prevention or management of osteoporosis is individualized to fit into your lifestyle and needs. Recommendations for optimizing bone health include a program that consists of a well-balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, physical activity, and a healthy lifestyle (including not smoking, avoiding excessive alcohol use, and recognizing that some prescription medications and chronic diseases can cause bone loss).
